Legendary boxing commentator Steve Bunce is to pay tribute to Cromer's boxing Walsh brothers - and their Farmy Army of fans - at a special event in the town next week.
Bunce will host his BBC Radio 5 Live boxing podcast in front of a live audience on Cromer Pier, with the Liam, Ryan and Michael his special guests, on Tuesday, February 6.
The brothers - under trainer Graham Everett - have racked up 72 professional fights times since they burst on the scene fighters on the same bill in in February 2008 and have competed at British, European and world level.
As well as talking about their own fighting careers, they will share their thoughts on the current state of domestic and international boxing, and much more besides.
“I've been trying to tell the Walsh brothers story for a long time," said Bunce. "They have been, and still are, a massive part of British boxing and have been for many years, but they've also been overlooked. Now part of that is geography, whether you like it or not. If they were from London they'd be bigger. If they were from Manchester Birmingham, Leeds, Sheffield, that's just the reality of boxing.
“But it’s a great story. They all made their debut on the same night and then have moved through their pro careers winning British titles, winning Commonwealth titles, fighting for world titles. I was desperate to get the three of them together for a show… and I finally have.”
Bunce and the Walsh brothers will also be answering questions from the live audience which members of the public can be a part of. All tickets are free and will be allocated on a first come-first served basis. Applicants have to be over 18, and can apply for a maximum of two tickets.
“This is not just a boxing night," added Bunce. "This is a night for their fans who travelled all over, sometimes in eight coach loads. Going to fights in central London… or parts of London. It's basically a tribute, not just to the boys, but a thank you to the fans. That’s why this event is free. It costs absolutely nothing whatsoever.”
This is the third date of the 5 Live Boxing Tour which has already taken in Belfast and Cardiff, with Cromer selected as the first date in England as 5 Live celebrates local boxing heroes at each of the shows. It is part of the BBC’s Across the UK strategy, bringing the corporation closer to audiences to better reflect, represent and serve all parts of the UK.
