Wroxham's outstanding defensive display after going down to 10 men earned them a well-deserved point at seventh-placed Thamesmead, writes Tom Wardle.

The hosts had the majority of the possession in the final stages but didn't manage to work keeper Elliot Pride, such was the impressive rearguard in front of him. And had Jamie Forshaw been a couple of inches taller his outstretched foot could have made it three points, not one, during the second half.

Early on, Jack Garrod's shot from a wide angle was well held by Alan Walker. Michael Uwezu and Ainsley Everett failed to trouble Pride while Forshaw also missed the target at the opposite end following good work from Danny Beaumont.

With just 20 minutes on the clock Wroxham defender Jackson Ramm retaliated to a stamp by using his elbow and was subsequently sent off for the second time since arriving at Trafford Park.

Mead were definitely favourites to go on and win the game but Lewis Dark and Everett were wasteful when reasonably well placed. Substitute Derek Duncan's sweetly struck shot went closer as it clipped the top of the crossbar.

It was as close as the hosts came with only Forshaw – trying to connect to Charlie Norman's centre – having a real chance of breaking the deadlock.

Wroxham last night confirmed that assistant manager Cedric Anselin had stepped down from his role due to family commitments. Frenchman Anselin, a former Norwich City midfielder, joined the Yachtsmen in time for last season alongside manager Stewart Larter when they arrived at Trafford Park from lower-level Gorleston. The pair guided the Yachtsmen to a memorable Norfolk Senior Cup success and an eighth-placed league finish. A brief club statement said: 'Cedric would like to wish the football club all the best and said thank you to all those involved. The football club would also like to wish Cedric all the best for the future and to thank him for his efforts with Wroxham FC. There will be no further comment at this time.'
