A dog involved in a 25-hour siege is under the care of the police after the animal's owner was tasered by armed police.

Kleovrotos Thomadakis, 34, was arrested following a major incident at St Martin's Church, in Overstrand last Friday.

His dog was present when police surrounded the church and then entered the building following a 25-hour standoff.

A court hearing on Monday this week heard that when police entered the church, one officer was injured as police tasered Thomadakis.

The officer suffered a "deep gash" to his leg from a 12-inch machete wielded by Thomadakis and was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. They have since been discharged.

The force added that the dog is now having "suitable arrangements [made] for its care.”

Witnesses have reportedly said that they thought the dog was of a "large size".

Officers were called to the church at around 4pm on Thursday, September 26 to reports of concern for the safety of a man who appeared distressed and had locked himself in the church.

Armed police, dog units and specialist negotiators remained at the scene throughout the night and following day, until the incident ended at around 5.30pm last Friday, when officers entered the building.
