Superkart racer Jack Tritton has stunned the racing community by becoming the Division 1 national champion in his first season.

Mr Tritton, 25, won the British Superkart Super Series which ran from April to October, with races being held at Anglesey, Donington Park, Snetterton and Silverstone.

He said: “When you look at the calibre of people you’re facing you shouldn’t be able to battle with them yet - there was a European champion in there, quite a few British champions as well. One guy had won the British championship 10 times.

“We started the year much stronger than anyone expected and kept getting stronger as the season went on.”

He said: “We’ve had the track now since 2017 but I worked here for the previous owner.

"When I started karting here at age 11 I used to stay behind at weekends, and help teach a lot of people.”

Mr Tritton said he first saw superkarts race when he was six years old when his dad was racing motorbikes, and had always wanted to try it.

In 2021 he moved up from normal karting on short circuits to 125cc superkarts - geared karts able to reach 120mph.

He became the British and national 125cc Superkart champion last year, and so was able to jump two classes to Division 1 for this year’s season.

He said: “The goal for next year is to see if we can retain the championship in the same division, and compete in some races abroad.

“We’ve entered a French grand prix and a race over in the Netherlands, at Assen, which is the biggest superkart race of the year.”
