Coltishall the first to silverware

The Smallburgh Crown Division One League Cup final between Coltishall and Ludham took place.

Despite falling behind to Ludham’s Michael McCormick’s fourth-minute strike, Coltishall recovered and equalised from the penalty spot through Ross Jo.

Minutes later, Aaron Nixon shot them in front, followed by a man-of-the-match performance from Joe Woodcock as he completed an exquisite hat-trick as Colts turned on the style for a 5-1 interval lead.

The second period was a much quieter affair, although Coltishall’s Simon Peasley and Alan Maxwell added further goals. But for Ludham’s keeper, Iain Turner, the margin would have been greater.

Carl O’Conner reduced the arrears from the penalty spot to give a 7-2 final scoreline.

In the Slater & Frith Division One, Coltishall briefly top the table after their 6-0 away win at Briston, following their 9-1 mid-week trouncing of Aldborough Lions. Aldborough did well to pick themselves up when travelling to North Walsham A, where they recorded a 3-2 win, whilst Horning were also away winners, 2-1 at Runton.

Haisboro Athletic need one point from their remaining three games to become Wayford Nurseries Division Two champions. They won 4-0 at Lyng, and second-placed Worstead surprisingly slumped to a 7-0 reverse at Holt A, for whom Ben Seybold notched a hat-trick. Jason Thurbon (2), Daniel Rouse and James Jarvis were also on target.

Mundesley were 3-1 home winners over Corpusty Reserves. And Aylsham A hit seven without reply at Felmingham, while Cromer Youth Old Boys completed their fixtures mid-week at home to Corpusty Reserves with a 4-3 win.

The top two in the Knights Trophies Division Three met at Cawston, where champions Blakeney turned in a top performance, winning 4-1 with goals from Toby Blowers (2), Aaron Hill and Mark Sadler.

In the bottom-of-the-table clash between East Ruston Reserves and Erpingham Reserves, Ruston ran out 6-1 winners.
